Looks great! So Glad the engine is finally getting shelter.

Any Chance of seeing some close ups of the steel construction. I'm currently doing some design work on reproducing a station platform for use with the Flemington RR Station. Will need to use steel but would like to replicate the appearence of wood where possible. Always good to show clients examples what's been done elsewhere.

I can only assume your client is Unity Bank judging from other posts about the Flemington CNJ station restoration.

From the start, the plan for the current passenger station that BR&W uses was for a canopy. It was never erected and the bases that were cast into the concrete platform for the "future installation" of this platform canopy were not put in the right locations.

I myself have tried in vain to gather resources to complete the design and have the structure finally erected, but a search for historical architecture designs has turned up fairly fruitless.

Plus, there is preliminary discussion about changing the station location to Main Street.

I envision that a raised platform could be built as an extension of the CNJ freight house... and what we call the "CNJ siding" be rehabilitated for use as a long runaround. As with everything, it's all money and time, both of which are very rare commodities here at BR&W.

If you are doing architectural design for this project, I certainly would like to contribute in regards with the possibility of future railroad passenger operations from the CNJ station.

this view shows the steel frame in a little more detail. I'm guessing the plan is to build new trackage under the structure once it is finished, connect it to the current display track, and roll the 494 and caboose underneath.

The folks responsible for the gorgeous restoration on the 494 must be thrilled with the progress.

Thanks Stephen, for posting another photo showing the steel work.

A bit different design than I'm using for my current station project, but helpful to see what is being done elsewhere. I did have someone ask about a similiar structure for another project so it might help out there.

It's nice to see the White River Jct station still looking rather well. I hope the locomotive weathervane is still atop the cupola.

Rod,

Glad to hear there's still a Whitehead still involved with the BR&W. I remember the early start of the BR&W back when it involved the relaying of the Rockaway Valley, then later the DL&W 565 in Chester, NJ. I remember my Dad being asked to pay a quarter to be able to take my picture in the cab. I still have the picture.

Anyway, I'll be glad to discuss the station project at length if you'd like to contact me off this post. I had spoke to Kean a while back about it.

The shelter looks low but when the Locomotive and caboose are backed into place it will be down at the level it should be for the loading platform. This shelter has be in the works for about 4 years.
This will be the first time in maybe 60 -70 years that this locomotive has been under a roof.
