I wrote an artile on my website about my cab ride on this steam locomotive. Lots of pictures to see. If anyone's in the area, this is very cheap way to beat the crowds and ride a neat 1916 Baldwin 2-6-2 in Washington state. They need riders!

I took this photo of Harold back in June '02. It's a nice, short ride they have.

No power reverse there! The engine has an interesting headlight...

I noticed that too. Builder photos show the original bucket type headlight, but photos from the 1950s, show the current headlight that they use now.

And here's of Harold helping out with the firebox work on #21 in Astoria, Oregon last year.

Is it possible to see # 21 yet? I was heading to Astoria today to go to the beach, and I was wondering if they still have it locked up or if one can actually stop by and take a look at it.

We are always glad to show off the work we've done on #21. There is usually someone at the shop on weekends. There is usually someone there on Tuesday or Thursday evenings after work, but sometimes in the summer folks are enjoying themselves outside instead of working inside so there won't be anyone there.

If you aren't in Astoria on weekends or Tuesday or Thursday evenings, email me and I'll make arrangements for you to get inside and look around.

If you are looking for a real change of pace, I hope to have the finishing touches done in the next week or so on a program where you can turn one of the two 1890's vintage drawbridges the ARPA turns for the Lewis and Clark Explorer passenger trains. Volunteers will need to be physically able to climb a ladder from a boat onto the bridge, and be able to walk around in circles turning the bridge. Because of insurance and legal issues, a volunteer has to be a member of the ARPA, and have steel toed shoes. Once I get the program detailed, I'll post it on RYPN and our website so you can see what is expected of a bridge turning volunteer.

I have enjoyed the website and the photos of the restoration of the #21. When can we expect to see some updates? The last was March 2003.
What has been done since? How ready is the engine for steam?

Thanks for answering this inquiry.
