For those of you like me that enjoy trains as a hobby - here's the best opportunity to run real trains on a real railroad in all of California. For the 1st time in 19 years, the Pacific Southwest Railway Museum is opening up Brakemen classes to all comers. After joining the Museum, we will train you in the safety rules and General Code of Operating Rules - successful volunteers will run trains on our mountain railroad - 16 mile round trips. You will also have the opportunity to qualify as a Conductor, then as an Engineer. This will take time. Classes will be held at Campo or, perhaps, in San Diego also. If you are interested, please email me and I'll put together a class for those interested. We do ask that you try to make yourself available on either a Saturday or Sunday once a month if possible at Campo. Campo is one hour east of Qualcomm Stadium. Motorcar positions are also available. Please pass the word amongst your friends. See you on the San Diego & Arizona Railway - now in our 19th year of operations. We have trouble filling a full train crew some days. The South Carolina Railroad Museum mconrad@msmgmt.com |

Was a required period of museum membership whereby the new recruits were restricted to restoration/admin duties before being considered for T&E positions? http://www.rtms-movietrains.com |

Yes, it used to be that some time was required for the non-train duties. However, we need to fill 36-40 operating positions each month - and we need more volunteers. So, that requirement is gone now.
