Some photos have recently been posted to the Missabe Road Yahoo Group files, showing the exterior of the buildings, plus the office. Recent reports indicate all are still standing and owned by the city, in derelict condition. One newspaper report indicates a developer is interested in utilizing the buildings as part of a waterfront makeover. This was the main steam shop for the Missabe, subject of a Hastings/Morgan visit in the 1950s, which showed a mighty DM&IR Yellowstone dismantled there, but apparently no one has approached the idea of a Missabe steam museum for the buildings. The Missabe was recently bought by CN, which has announced closure of the nearby Proctor facility as well as the Bessemer & Lake Erie roundhouse/shop at Greenville, PA. CN is noted for a scorched earth policy toward structures, so I would not expect these facilities to last long unless some other use is found for them. Engine and car rebuilders sometimes utilize them, but they are tough to heat in the winter.
