Do you have your checkbook out? Actually, the answer is no. For one thing, it makes no sense to spend the money necessary to bring the locomotive up to current FRA regs just to pull a 4-7 car train on 11 miles of track at 25-30mph. Yes, the L & N ran their heavier 2-8-4s on this line in the steam era, but they were pulling large coal trains out of Eastern Kentucky. 152, a 1905-built 4-6-2 is more to our liking size wise.

We do, however, are awaiting on hearing about our TEA-21 grant to build a protective shelter for this and some other pieces of equipment.

Sorry, the bank doesn't seem to want to recognize a check under that name. Got a real name and address so we can invoice you? >;-)

C&O 2789 is curently being restored in North Judson, IN. It will be a few more years before the loco is ready to run, but the musem has every intention of running it.

I will be heading there tomorrow to talk to them about their plans to run the loco in the future. They are working on a deal to operate a short line (32 miles) that will allow them to run this loco on the orginal C&O tracks that used to go to Chicago, and to top it all off, this loco may actually pull grain and tank cars in revenue service.

More info later as it becomes available.

They announced a year or so ago that they are only going to do a cosmetic restoration of the engine. That is also what they said when I visited there a few weeks ago. As for the new shortline, the tracks are in rather bad shape and probably wouldn't be able to take that large of an engine.
