I may have aksed this before, but any thoughts on the future of the big earthquake-damaged station in Oakland, Cal.?

Isn't it surrounded by freeways now? Any viable proposals for saving and reusing it?

Has it been looted?

Located in the heart of Oakland's "Garden Dictrict" (where the factories grow), SP's ex-16th Street station is included in a developer's recent plan to construct housing and retail space on adjoining property. The project is surrounded by controversy and is by no means a sure deal. Sadly, the interior of the station is badly decayed due to a failed roof. The mural shown in the interior view has been destroyed and UPRR gave away the big chandaliers.

As of a few months ago, several of the chandaliers (in sad shape) and some of the high-backed ticket room benches (in better shape) were stored at GGRM's facility in Hunters Point.
