Y'all, NCTM is fortunate to be the recipient of a Cone Mills Co. textile boxcar, of which there were only a handful. It's a neat tie in between NC's RR story and its once great textile industry. We've found a few photos but could use some more, especially in color. If you've got a source, holler me up. The organization that provided the boxcar, the Greensboro NRHS chapter is also underwriting a cosmetic restoration of the car, now set for spring 2001, so we want to make her look just right! Incidentally, this is the second "tie in" car to another industry that folks think of when they think of North Carolina; the other is an Atlantic & East Carolina boxcar with a beautiful "Tobacco Route" herald!
Wrinnbo@aol.com |

Talk about a consist I'd love to see recreated--one of those itty bitty A&EC passenger trains from the 50s. F-unit, baggage-rpo, and and an old truss-rod coach. Handsome little trains!
eledbetter@rypn.org |
