What sources are available for information regarding heavyweight Southern Pacific mail cars (i.e. online sources, books, people, etc.)? I'm looking for rosters, pictures, build/retirment dates, etc. Also, how many of these are currently preserved in museums?
Thanks,
Gerald Kopiasz
Try Dennis Ryan and Joseph Shine's excellent book "Southern Pacific Passenger Traina" Volume 1. Sub title Night Trains of the Coast Route. The book was first printed in 1986 so should still be available. The book shows most of the passenger equipment classes of the S.P. Hope this will be of some help.
