See the engine and the video same day! Jim

The N.C. Transportation Museum is offering the premier showing of "Steep Grades and Fast Shays: The Life and Times of the 1925," a documentary by
Blue Ridge Video, 4 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 14 at the Orientation Room theater in the Roundhouse.

The 84-minute tape chronicles the story of the museum's 79-year-old Shay steam locomotive, including its construction in 1925, its service on logging railroads in the mountains of Western North Carolina, and its role as one of the last steam locomotives in regular service in the U.S.

It also covers the preservation and restoration of the locomotive as a living icon of shortline steam railroading, its operation at the N.C.
Transportation Museum, and special outings to the California State Railroad Museum and Great Smoky Mountains Railroad.

The museum is located in Spencer, N.C., on the site of the historic Spencer
Shops, once a maintenance facility for Southern Railway's steam locomotives.
