Sometime during last night, thieves stole the Builders Plates off of the 4501 and the Superheater Plate off the 610. The 4501's plates are copies and are marked "fake" on the back side. The plates can be distinguished by the October 1911 Builder's date and the 37085 Builder's number. The plate taken from the 610 is an original but has no real distinguishing marking.
If anyone sees any information regarding these items for sale anywhere, please contact TVRM immediately. This is an outrage and we will seek justice against the low-lifes who did this.
G. Mark Ray, TVRM
This is an unmitigated outrage. The selfishness of this kind of "collector" passes belief. I will keep an eye out, as I'm sure will many others.
I wonder if these people are idiot railfans or just vandals in general. If they are just your average neighborhood menaces, it seems odd that they would focus on the builder plates, which leads me to beleive that these people must be train fans of some sort (although no real train fan would ever do something to deface equipment). Best of luck in recovering the stolen property.
