Some old photos, history and comments on Sierra 2-6-6-2 No. 38. Today, it is a sad, dismantled derelict at McCloud, California. To his credit, however, the present owner did save it from scrap when last owner Rayonier dismantled their Railroad Camp in western Washington, where it had been on display. You have to be a Trainorders member to enlarge the photos.

Well I am posting the image from our video box on the Rayonier, with this nice painting of ex-Sierra #38. There are several shots of it and 2-6-6-2 #14 in the video by Maynard Laing. It was kinda cool that it had a second home from Sierra.

I saw what was left of the # 38 at McCloud several months ago, and it appeared at that time to be in the process of being moved, with Tender and Boiler gone, engine bed in 2 pieces, and fresh oil on running gear. The # 38 is reported to be owned by Fred Kepner who acquired it about 1985. Among other Sierra engines he also has is # 18 (2-8-0 tenderless since leaving Sierra in the 60's) which was reported at McCloud a number of years ago and # 36 (Alco 2-8-2) which was in Utah and now moved to somewhere in Southern Oregon or Northern Calif, could be to the Merrill, OR area.
