Actually it was built as a battery electric and was converted with a gas engine and generator. Photos are supposed to be loaded in a day or two. I live about 4 miles from it and last visited it about 15+ years ago. Has a fake bolier, etc. Richard > Not a steamer, but some sort of > gas/electric, from 1915. I wrote an article for the March-April 2003 Narrow Gauge & Shortline Gazette about the Weyerhaeuser Mill B operation in Everett, WA Richard > Not a steamer, but some sort of > gas/electric, from 1915. From a Weyerhauser > mill in Washington. I cound not get the > photos to download. |

From the photos on eBay it has fallen victim to some serious contraptionizing. For only $25K it could be yours. I think I'll keep my $$$. K3PRR@verizon.net |

Are there any other survivng battery-storage locomotives? They were an important step in the development of diesel-electric locomotive technology. Does anyone have an in-service photo of this motor? I am interested in knowing how much of the original fabric survives. > According to Westinghouse data BLW c/n 42217 > was a 7 ton 60 volt storage battery loco, > shipped 8/26/15, BLW class 4-2/8 C 101, > originally had wooden cab and 120 cell > Edison battery. Surprisingly the engine is still very much complete. The gas engine and generator was placed in the battery compartment with a scection of the hood cut out and the gawd awful "boiler" placed on top. The cab is pretty much the way it looked in later years and even the covered headlights are original. For the most part restoration would be removal of the engine, repair/replacing of the hood, etc. Couplers were long reach bars that connected the lumber cars. It could be restored.
