Post subject: Clover Colony / Hampton Roads

A number of years ago, after Hurricane Andrew or perhaps Hugo, these two Pullmans which were private owned, were damaged at the Museum down in Miami. It was my understanding that the Clover Colony went to the TVRM. I believe I was once told that the Amtrak compatiable items were removed from the Clover Colony ( such as HEP, etc ). Does this car run today in excursion service and if so in what condition ? My memory was that it was a fine car and well taken car of during its private ownership years.

In regard to the Hampton Roads, where did it go and what has happened to that over the last 10 plus years.

Thank you in advance. Any pictures of the cars today would be wonderful

The Clover Colony is still operational and is offered as part of our Dixieland excursions. I am not aware of anything that has been removed from this car. New windows have been built and will be installed during the off season. The car still retains its Pullman paint scheme.

As I recall seeing posted previously on this board the owner was careful in preserving the parts removed in the HEP conversion. Is this true or rumor?

Also, how does TVRM opreate its other passenger cars? Are their DC systems intact? Is there a roster of TVRM passenger equipment available?

> Both cars were purchased from the insurance company by Pete Clausen who then donated the the Clover Colony to TVRM. The Hampton Roads went to Knoxville and I believe is now named the French Broad River. It can be seen during the football season (and some of the rest of the year-it was there a couple of weeks ago) behind Neyland Stadium at UT.

I carefully removed many of those unnecessary parts & they were placed in storage. The car parts removed were related to steam heat, etc. Where they are now, I don't know. I will ask the next time I speak with him.

Micky Wolfson owned the Hampton Roads/Clover Colony. Perhaps son of the Louis Wolfson you referred to. When Louis Wolfson was alive he owned the local CBS affiliate in Miami & a chain of movie theaters. I have no idea what he did prior to the mid 1950's. When his father & brother died Micky inherited the family fortune & purchased his 2 railcars. Hurricane Andrew put & end to that hobby.
