Here's a quick survey: Does your organization sell cab rides or has it in the past and discontinued the practice recently? Restrict them to diesel only or allow steam cab rides as well? http://nctrans.org Wrinnbo@aol.com |

Don't sell cab rides. Don't routinely offer cab rides. However, that said.... Special guests of the railroad may be given a "cab pass" to ride in the cab for part or full trip. The pass must be signed by the CMO, rider, and is presented to the engineer who retains the pass in his/her* possession through the ride and submits it with the paperwork at the end of the day. sc 'doc' lewis *no, Heber Valley doesn't have any "her" engineers right now. Dear Jim: We don't sell cab rides, but if someone wants to ride in the cab (steam or diesel) and has bought a ticket and is over eighteen and can get into the cab without assistance and signs a waiver of liability, it isn't a problem. We don't advertise this, but we have a couple of people per week ask, and if the crew is OK with it we try to accomidate them. J.David jdconrad@snet.net |

Hi Jim. The Wilmington & Western offers both steam and diesel cab rides. I don't know what the price is off the top of my head, but a steam cab ride will run you a bit more. As a matter of fact, there was a cab rider in the #58 on the 8/8/04 2pm train awhile back. Jim: We allow cab rides in our diesels during regular caboose train operations. Cost to riders is $15. Les Beckman (Hoosier Valley Railroad Museum/North Judson, Indiana) midlandblb@cs.com |

I have had free cab rides (well, I did buy a train ride ticket) at Mt Ranier Scenic ( 2-8-2-T), Knott's Berry Farm (4-6-0), Cal. St RR Musuem (0-6-0-T), Virginia + Truckee (2-8-2) and Nevada St RR museum (4-4-0 and 4-6-0). I always just ask the engineer. Also got a short ride on a Georgetown Loop Shay as it ran around the train. They were training a new fireman or they would have let me ride the whole trip. |
