Jim and others, the best deal in the country has to be Roaring Camp's Engineer for a day. If you show up at 8am to the enginehouse, you get to hostle the lokies and even pull one out of the house. Drag gas lines through the muck and oil and lube the engine. Careful instructions are given by Tom or Kent on the care and feeding of the firey beasts. By 10 am you are filthy pig dirty and ready to leave the house. Back up to the train, and head to the depot for the first run up 8% of narrow gauge mountain railroading! Hey if the crew remembers, you will get a bandanna and a a hat along with your deathburger, chips and RC cola! Once past the Indian Creek Trestle you may expect to sit in the right hand seatbox and feel the power as you climb the side of Bear Mountain. Blowing the whistle is of course your job and you better do it right (wrist action) or you may be denied the opportunity. Coming down hill though is strictly left up to the staff. So after 4-5 runs on a given day its back to the house to put her away, look at the other priceless artifacts and give a so long to the great crew. All this for $125.00 what are you waiting for. Take the Red Eye to San Jose and its 40 minutes from the airport.

But of course there are the namby pamby's who show up at the depot around 10:30 and do their thing and leave after a couple runs. They don't even get their hands dirty...

So when are ya coming out?

Jeff

Jeff,

Glad you enjoyed your day here at Felton! As one of the firemen, I think I speak for all of the crew when I say we really enjoy it too, and meet a lot of great people this way. It's worth it to see the smiles - no, grins - on peoples' faces when they step down off the engineer's seat.
