I have been unable to find any new information regarding operation of that high-drivered, high speed licensed German 4-6-2 that made a few runs at speeds over 100 mph. As I recall it is licensed to carry passengers at speeds up to 115 moh (not 115kph). There was a brief splash about this on the Internet, but now it has petered away with no new information about schedules or proposed trips. It made Trains Magazine last year, but after the fact. One can find lots of information about other Plan Dampf events, but not the high speed group, which is a privately owned locomotive.

This is a trip to Europe that would be worth taking - to see this in action and to ride it. Anyone see anything new about this particular locomotive? Thanks,

Peter Bowler

I believe you are referring to DB 18 201, restored by Dampflokwerk Meiningen and stored at the DB Museum.

I still marvel at trips like this one last Saturday.

Behind Pacific 01 118, departed late Saturday afternoon and returned early Sunday morning: Frankfurt to Koblenz and return - traveling along both sides of the Rhine -- for only 49 Euros!

Would that cheap airfares could have been found...

Gentlemen, thank you for the replies and links. Looks like another missed opportunity!
