| Post subject: | An North Carolina Transportation Museum update |
It's been a while since I bored y'all with the goings on up at Spencer, and to be honest, personal business has kept me off property for a while. I managed to get by last Saturday and caught a bit of work. Here's the latest: GE 45-tonner L-3, long on display out front, has been moved inside the working (steam) shop area. This is partly to get it out of the weather and partly to evaluate it for cosmetic work. The NRHS national alloted $2k this year for a paint job so this is preliminary to doing that work. Also, she and the other equipemnt along the Master Mechanic's Office platform track had to move while the MMO gets some serious structural and roof work. N&W combine 1506 is moving along and I saw new steel going in in the floor area of the passenger compartment, while some old steel was coming out of the vestibule end. GP30 2601 was getting new flooring and electrical work in preparation for its visit to GSMR next month. There was a mock up for a new t- shirt for the engine and there's a brochure in the works for the engine's visit to Bryson City Sept. 10-12. Shay 1925 was out and about on the train as usual. She just had her 30-day inspection and is set for a tad bit of machine work the morning of Aug. 28 which means a disesael that morning but Shay that afternoon (knock on wood!). The T-21 grant for FP7 6133 has been met and bids are coming in now for the work. No shop preference here although someone said earlier Altoona, but that's not the case until the figures come in! The F40 and NCDOT caboose are at the Roundhouse and the Cone Mills boxcar is out in place of the L-3 so a clear photo can be made of it at least for now. I'm firing Labor Day weekend. So if you're in the 'hood, drop by and say hello and I'll try to find some fines to sprinkle on the fire at the appropriate time. Naturally, anyone who wants to join in the fun is welcomed and encouaged to join the party! Thomas is coming up in early October and many hands are needed for our Little Blue Buddy and all his friends! Jim http://nctrans.org Wrinnbo@aol.com |
