| Post subject: | NS Recruiting at AA Baseball/Any Precedent? |
Tonight, as the Harrisburg Senators dropped another game to the Altoona Curve, at least 4 times the scoreboard had info about an upcoming NS job fair. My understanding is that before the great post-war contraction, they used legacy recruiting (a little like nepotism-but useful in a world where facts were few and family honor would ensure that the ol' man would make sure junior got to work on time and ready to go with a proper attitude). Of course today's drug tested, fault intolerant world requires that you find as high a percentage of suitable individuals as possible among your recruits. Stories I've heard of the old days were of some gravel-voiced foreman rattling the cages of some young kid with such probing questions as "so your John Smith's kid" and telling the kid to show up on Monday at...
