Finally catching up on the Interchange after being unable to read it for a while. I noted in the long discussion and history of DL&W 565 thread that some parts to the engine may have been buried at Steamtown in a previous cleanup campaign. Is this really true? Is a recovery effort underway or planned?

I suppose this begs the question, why any railroad museum would scrap or destroy locomotive parts in the first place, particularly when they originated within its own collection.

What are the issues preventing the operation of the 565 in the future? Has her boiler gone the limit? Perhaps the loco is simply too light for the operations Steamtown would want.

I've often thought that 565 would be a good engine to alternate in yard service with BLW switcher 26. Plus, on occasion, it could run up to Moscow doubleheaded with one of the larger engines. Or, it could take a short train by itself.

Hopefully the oil conversion that was started for the Adirondack project can be reversed. I can't see burning oil in Scranton (or in Cumberland, for that matter-)
