When I see pictures like those of the SS CATALINA and other historic ships, trains etc it does make me want to cry.<p>This society makes it so easy for people to walk off with a few dollars in bronze and brass and cause thousands of dollars of loss. Usually the whole historic artifact is lost or the preservationest owners are put to tremendous trouble to replace, re-cast the missing item.<p>In the case of ships that valve usually means the difference between survival and the scrap yard. The soft glow of yellow metal is one of the reasons that we are all so fond of antique machinery. <br>Pox on Yellow Metal thieves! TM <br> ted_miles@NPS.gov |
