A report over on TrainOrders indicates that 12 of the 15 Metra F40C's have been sold to Helm Leasing, with two others held up in ownership issues relating to which municipal district purchased the units, and "Supposedly 610 is going to the Illimois Railway Museum at Union, IL."

Anyone have confirmation??

Well, there is interest in preserving one of these, but nothing firm yet. Some issues relating to disposing of assets by the public transit agency, and the ever present issues of funding the move, acquisition, and associated expenses.

These F-40c 's with their 6 wheel trucks tended to be "gage spreaders" and were restricteded to only certain yard tacks. Further more the weight (loading) of the beasts excluded them from places like LaSalle St. Station (Rock Island Line). So lets have 3 cheers for the Track Dept. and a bit of mercy for the bridge engineer.
