Post subject:  Ohio Central Fires Up LS&I #33

Today the massive 2-8-0 former LS&I #33 was fired up (August 25, 2004). After a successful hydro for the FRA earlier in the week a match was thrown in the firebox, the first in more than 8 years. Over the next few days steam tests will occur. She will NOT operate under her own power, this week. The piston valves have been removed, so that she can be fully blown out and cleaned out.

After these tests, the fire will be left to die and the #33 will be shoved back into the shop to receive any needed repairs and the final jacketing and paint. The piston valves will be replaced and then she will beable to go for some test running. This will all take a few weeks as there are some excursions that will be run with the 6325 and 1293.

We are all looking forward to the return of the #33 to service and we will keep everyone updated as to the progress of the locomotive.

Regards,
Jason Johnson
