What is/was this car used for?

is a photo of an ATSF type GA-139 bottom-dump hopper. What is/was this kind of car used for??

Looks very much like those specialized dump cars that BLH was selling in the 50s as the loco business dried up. They were used to ship ore concentrates and had very tightly sealed doors.

Isn't this the sort of car they use for sugar beets?
