| Post subject: | Bel-Del excursions extended |
While 2-8-2 #142 leaves Phillipsburg, NJ to go barnstorming around North Jersey and New York this Fall (yes, there will be mainline steam in the east in 2004 - thansk NYSWTH&S!), it has been announced that the excursion - planned to end now - will continue through the Fall with diesel power and a "double deck" coach. Any idea what car that is? Newspaper accounts say #142 "might" return next year, but it sounds like the excursions will no matter what. And another tourist railroad is born... Rob |

The Bel-Del steam excursions will end the weekend of Sept 11th and 12th. It is planned that the excursions will continue until the end of September with a diesel and the NYS&W ex Long Island RR cars. The steam engine and the LI cars are scheduled to run in Westfield NJ on October 2nd and 3rd and then go up to Syracuse on the weekend of October 16th & 17th to operate trains between Syracuse & Binghamton. The NYS&W Hist. Society is planning on receiving several ex Metra double decker cars from Chicago Metra. They were originally scheduled to be delivered in August but as of this date, they have not arrived. The plan was to have one or two of these cars continue to run on the Bel-Del with the diesel. There are also plans to have Halloween and Christmas trains on the Bel Del using this equipment. The operators of the Bel Del trains are happy with the operation thus far, and it appears that the steam engine will return in 2005. |
