A pretty long, but interesting discussion by older railroaders of the places they stayed in years ago on runs away from home. Some different from the places they put us up in today. Flop houses, beaneries, and other hardships of the road, are something worth interpreting in preservation today. At some away from home terminals, crews stayed in shacks they built themselves, out of scrap materials.

Great posts,

Never been a railroader, didn't want to add anything to the texture of the threads. But had to comment.

At Southern Pacific's Wendel, California facility, after SP left the meal providing, there was, HS Anderson, next J. V. Moan then onto Mile Post Inns.

As a new transport truck driver for Morning Glory Dairies, I also filled in for the Litchfield wholesale/retail driver at times. We always left the dairy products for each of Espee's Wendel, California meal contractors at Everad Heard's Market at Litchfield.
