Stolberg was a steam center in the far west of Germany, near Aachen. I used to hang out there in the early 1970s, while in the Army. Found this page noting the celebration held when the last fires were dropped in 1976, but what is left there today? http://www.strahle.ws/DBStolberg.htm Incidently, it looks like I wasn't the first American to visit there, as noted in these memoirs of the USATC 740th Operating Battalion from WWII. http://users.skynet.be/bulgecriba/740th ... talion.htm |

Just ran across this. Can't remember much German, but looks like the table was removed, and the rest probably torn down. http://www.mynetcologne.de/~nc-rademagu ... olberg.htm |

Looks like there is a fledgling museum at Koblenz (where the Mosel and Rhine rivers meet), with at least a turntable and what appears to be some shop buildings still extant. http://translate.google.com/translate?h ... %3DREAL-tb This page says the roundhouse was apparently destroyed. http://translate.google.com/translate?h ... %3DREAL-tb |
