Nice page devoted to the Lincoln funeral train of 1865. The eight axle car was later destroyed by fire (detailed here in old newspaper clipping), but I believe some artifacts are in the new UP museum in Council Bluffs. http://members.aol.com/RVSNorton1/Lincoln51.html |

Yes, the Union Pacific Museum in Coucil Bluffs does display artifacts identified as being from the car. I visited the museum just over a week ago when back in the area to see family, etc. The Museum displays a desk, sofa, chair, and silver pitcher that are said to have been inside the car. |

Go to http://www.craftsmanshipmuseum.com/Warther.htm for pictures of this and other amazing carvings by "Mooney" Warther. I hope others who went to Train Fest knew about this museum in Dover and got a chance to visit. Truly amazing. The pictures are in the bottom half of the page, but the biographical info is interesting, too. The Warther Museum's web site isn't as detailed. |
