Burlington 2-8-2 4978 at the 7th Street coal chute in Denver, March 7, 1959. Its use had just ended on the C&S, to be returned to Galesburg, Illinois and the long dead lines there. It and four other CB&Q O1a 2-8-2s were leased by the subsidiary Colorado & Southern in the fall of 1958 to supplant diesels destroyed in two head on collisions that occurred close together. C&S and other northern Colorado roads were very busy in the fall and winter, hauling sugar beets to several Great Western sugar factories in the area. The 4978 is now displayed at Mendota, Illinois.
