Burlington 2-8-2 4978 at the 7th Street coal chute in Denver, March 7, 1959. Its use had just ended on the C&S, to be returned to Galesburg, Illinois and the long dead lines there. It and four other CB&Q O1a 2-8-2s were leased by the subsidiary Colorado & Southern in the fall of 1958 to supplant diesels destroyed in two head on collisions that occurred close together. C&S and other northern Colorado roads were very busy in the fall and winter, hauling sugar beets to several Great Western sugar factories in the area.
