As of this morning, the Feather River Rail Society has raised $2350 toward moving SP/Quincy 1100 to the Portola Railroad Museum. This is nearly halfway to the estimated $5000 needed to move the engine.

We are racing a deadline which will see Sierra Pacific Industries vacate their lease on the former Susanville line and give the UP the go-ahead to sever the line. As the 1100 is a plain bearing equipped engine, it must be moved off wheels and a flatcar will be the cheapest option. This, however, requires the line be open and passable.

The Quincy 1100 is a TR6A, perhaps the last surviving A unit from this rare EMD cow-calf switcher model based on the SW8. Originally built as EMD demonstator 1600, it was purchased along with its calf by the Southern Pacific. It would serve on various parts of the SP system, including the Northwestern Pacific and as the Sacramento shop switcher before being sold to the Quincy Railroad for use on the ex-SP line to Susanville. With the closure of the Susanville Mill earlier this year, the 1100 was donated to the FRRS for preservation.
