Company photographer uses his huge view camera to make the official portrait of N&W 2171, just finished in the Roanoke Shops, probably 1951 or 1952.

Ed King has the same photo session documented in his book, "Norfolk & Western in the Appalachains." His photo on page 51 of the photographer and camera is of the fireman's side of the 2171 instead of the engineer's side. He asscribes a date of April 1948 to the photo session. The reason I looked it up is that the N&W converted all the oblong smoke box doors to the traditional round ones very early in the '50s.
