The former CORP/SP metal Cottage Grove, OR depot is now a pile of
tin; and the old OP&E Engine House will soon be razed. Last month,
the OP&E/CORP Junction yard tracks were pulled as well.

Efforts were made to be allowed to deconstruct and move the depot;
and to take the Engine House apart; and to salvage the rails for
museum trackage use, but to no avail.

NOTE.... The Depot, Tracks and Engine House are being demolished to
make way for a "Railroad Park & Mini RR Museum", by the Bohemia
Foundation. So much for preserving any part of the land's former
rail use, for the new museum. A Carousel will be moved to where the
depot was (that's Railroad?).

The old Southern Pacific Ice House here in Klamath Falls was torn down last year. Evidently it had started to lean, so the railroad bulldozed it flat, though there was no sign of a lean from the 6th Street viaduct. It was sad, for this structure was probably the last railroad ice house in Oregon, and it had survived a big fire in 1930 when the Big Lakes Box Company sawmill next door burned down. You can find a picture of an SP fire train working to save the mill and ice house on page 26 of volume 16 (2002) of the Journal of the Shaw Historical Society (ISBN 0-9667919-4-0 from the Shaw Historical Library, Oregon Institute of Technology, Klamath Falls, Oregon)
