A friend of mine is teaching an Autocad course at the local community college, and I noticed an interesting photo on the front of the book. It's a closeup of the eccentric crank on a steam locomotive. An image of the book cover can be seen at:

I was wondering if anyone here can identify the locomotive. The method of attachment to the crankpin seems to be fairly unique (bolted with 4 bolts rather than being clamped around the main pin) but I can't find a match in any books I have.

Anyone here know? The photo on the book cover is uncredited.

Could that be a small scale live steamer? Look at the nut on the knuckle pin. It looks like one of those nylon locknuts. You couldn't use one of those on a full scale locomotive....

I'm almost certain it's a full-size steamer; it just doesn't show up very well in this small image. On the cover on the book, you can clearly see that the studs the nuts are on have been peened over, and there are some stamped letters on the eccentric crank (I don't have the book with me so I can't tell you what they are off-hand).

The rod and eccentric crank also have plenty of dings that make them appear to be full-scale.

I found it Hugh, I found a photo of the British Lord Nelson (4-6-0), (King Class?), has the four bolts we're looking for in the exccentric. I scan a photo later tonight for you.

While the bolts look a bit different, the shape of the exccentric is so distintive I'm sure this is it. In fact, I bet the photo on the book cover is the right side while this photo is of the left side.
