When the Hillsborough Railroad was close to destroyed by an arsonist several years back, one of the surviving casulties was ex-CPR #29, an operable 4-4-0 which was, I believe, the last steam loco to operate on the CP. The fire that consume a wonderful collection of locos and car scorched the 4-4-0, and destroyed her wooden parts. Eventually, the loco went back to the Canadian Pacific for cosmetic restoration and display at company headquarters. Has that been accomplished? How does she look? Where is she displayed? Does anyone have a URL for a picture of her as she appears today?
Does anyone know if she is restorable for operation?

|

CPR 29 was restored cosmetically at CP's Ogden shops and is now sitting outside in front of Canadian Pacific headquarters in Calgary.
The CPR did not purchase back the locomotive. It is on long term lease from the Canadian Railroad Historical Association as it was to the Salem and Hillsborough Railway.
I doubt it will ever run again. Much of the boiler was warped in the fire.
Although obviously not a good picture, this photograph of 29 is on the CPR website.
![]() robsterne@hotmail.com |
