Per the discussion a week or so ago concerning the equipment located in Morehead Kentucky, I did a search on the web and found very little Info. The search did find the following photographs from the early 1990's. steamer #12 http://www.railpictures.net/viewphoto.php?id=1641 http://www.railpictures.net/viewphoto.php?id=1643 http://www.railpictures.net/viewphoto.php?id=36832 http://www.railpictures.net/viewphoto.php?id=36833 http://www.railpictures.net/viewphoto.php?id=36834 Baldwin motors http://www.railpictures.net/viewphoto.php?id=36820 http://www.railpictures.net/viewphoto.php?id=36825 http://www.railpictures.net/viewphoto.php?id=36828 http://www.railpictures.net/viewphoto.php?id=1637 http://www.railpictures.net/viewphoto.php?id=1636 Andrew |

Many thanks for your effort. Hopefully, we can find out more about the M&NF and the later attempts to revive it. |

These photos were taken by Emmet Bell of Lawerenceburg KY. in 1993. The cosmetic restoration had just begun on 12 as per new smokebox paint. The fellow on top of the 1200 is me. We were blessed to have a cooperative fire department to supply the 300 gallons for the radiator. I will try to post a brief soon so that all of you can have your curiousity satisfied. I am currently writing a book on the subject and as time allows I plan to share the brief. As far as the historical photo of #12 at Spencer, I have never seen such. I know that the locomotive was used in St. Louis for some years before it worked out of Princeton Indiana. The Morehead and North Fork purchased the engine on May 14, 1952 for a sum of $3500 according to a first hand account of the last engineer to operate her. As most of you know, it takes a lot of work just to move equipment around for a weekend. In order to have our Railroad Days, we put in over 300 ties in the yard by hand. Including some very heavy switch ties I might add. More stories to come, JD Johnson, Morehead and North Fork Railroad Historian. |
