That's a classic scene. I think that's the prettiest paint job ever done on any railroad equipment. Is any of that street trackage in Milwaukee still in place? Or in use? I get to Chicago about once a year but haven't made it to Wisconsin.

Well, there are only two choices. One is at IRM restored to CNS&M, looking every bit as good as in the picture. The other trainset is in SEPTA disguise at Railways to Yesterday and is available. I cannot make out a number on the unit in the photo.

Note the weight limit sign to the right.

That Electroliner better be filled with an AWFUL lot of helium or hydrogen.

The Kalmbach people would yell at anyone who referred to an Electroliner as a streetcar. (including Morgan) But there it is.

Could the weight limit have been imposed to prevent damage to the tracks by heavier vehicles?

If the CNS&M was like most street railways, they owned the tracks and the space between, and were responsible for maintaining the pavement in that zone. The city woul have owned and maintained everything outward to the curb. That's why street railways had snow sweepers - the city was not about to plow someone else's property.

Probably to avoid a flat-out ban like "No Trucks", which would also impact the "good 'ol boys" and their pickup trucks. In some municipalities, this is a way to ban large trucks theoretically owned by companies, but to exempt small trucks, theoretically owned by voters.
