Gainesville is about to award the painting contract to a painter who is going to use PPG industrial alkyd enamel (not a urethane). He will paint a Southern Railway 500 series baggage car, a Seaboard Air Line steel cupola caboose, and of course Gainesville Midland 209. Quite a diverse collection.

Has anybody out there developed a spec for a similar paint for appropriate colors for the caboose and baggage car? We are talking roughly 1950's era here.......red and pullmanlike green of some kind, but no point reinventing the wheel given the number of similar cars painted out there.

Hi, Dave.

We have a PPG mix code for the Pullman Green we used on the SR baggage/express No. 518. I'll be happy to send it your way.

Has the color of the lettering been considered yet?

Thanks Stephen. I believe the painter as decided on vinyl lettering in a stock gold color.
