| Post subject: | SAL "Through the Heart of the South" logo stencil |
Hi, I just wanted to mention that I am about to send my manuscript about the Gainesville Midland Railroad to the publishers. For more information on the book please visit http://douglasvanveelen.home.mindspring.com/gmindex.htm I am also helping the City Of Gainesville try to record and repaint thier railroad equipment. This includes GM 209, an SAL caboose and a Southern Baggage car. I was wondering if anyone knows where I might be able to find out if someone already has an SAL "Through the Heart of the South" logo stencil. I would appreciate any leads. Thanks. Doug |

Wish I could help, but the logos on our caboose #5246 were done by hand. |

This raises an interesting question: who DOES have stencils out there that can be used or copied, so a group/ museum doesn't have to reinvent the wheel? I would think reporting marks, etc. would be a good one as well. TJG |

I see my pic didn't post. I thought I knew the 'Net and computers, but apparently I'm not a smart as I thought I was. Anybody know what I did wrong? |

The HTML "img" tag is doing you in - I think you want to use the "url" tag. Let me see if it works for me. http://www.scrm.org/HTMsrc/cab5246.htm Fred |

TJ - stencils are so east these days it may not pay to sweat them. Many sign companies, graphics companies, and architectural copiers can scan in a photo of the subject and size it, and plot and print it out. All you then need to do is pounce the paper and transfer to the car, followed by some sign paint and perhaps clear cover coat. dave |

Our restoration of B&O caboose #903878 two years ago used vynil (sp?) decals. These have withstood the South Carolina sun and some scraping by brush quite nicely so far. Since we have a very talented person to do hand lettering, though, we've been going that route for the stuff we've painted since then. The only thing we use stencils for is brake data and so forth. We've got a stencil cutter to make those -- old cerial boxes provide the stock. |
