The History Channel sent me an e-mail. They are looking for photos and film footage of Penn Station for a series they are doing called the Most. Penn Station will be the subject of a segment called the Most Significant Architectural Losses.
They say they are under a very tight schedule. I am going to look around a little. If any body has any good leads of knows where suitable material may be found can you send me a message.
Thanks.
hkading@rypn.org |

I believe several hundred tons were dumped in some swampland in New Jersey.
Dave
lathro19@idt.net |

You might let the TV producers know that although Penn Station is gone, its architectural influence isn't over. The 1980's United Airlines terminal at O'Hare was an intentional copy of the Roman arched ironwork of the station's concourse (according to, I think, the company's in-flight magazine).
A coincidental connection was made when United used the terminal in its advertising, accompanied by Gershwin's "Rhapsody in Blue." The principal theme of that was inspired by and composed on a train between Washington and New York, very likely on the PRR (according quotes from Gershwin on the back of my phonograph record).
Aarne Frobom
Michigan State Trust for Railway Preservation, Inc.
froboma@mdot.state.mi.us |
