Who owns and maintain the Great Northern 4-8-4 2584 in Havre,MT

Colin:

I don't know the answer to your question but Havre is the site of a long-time locomotive shop and service facility (GN/BN/BNSF). My guess is that there is a group of retirees who maintain the engine and the grounds. Somebody more local likely knows more.

Collin,

My understanding is that the locomotive is still owned by BNSF. It was moved a few years ago from near the Park Hotel to closer to the Amtrak Depot.

This is my favorite locomotive. I used to imagine it in operation as a child. Every time I went to Havre, I had to see it.

My impression is that the locomotive is very sound mechanically and would make a good candidate for restoration.

I am currently making a copy of the whistle in my shop. I am making it only half the diameter. It is a seven chime whistle.
