Post subject:  conversion formulas for grades and curves

I'm looking for two formulas. I was an art major, not math, so figuring the forumlas out on my own isn't a very good option.

I want to convert UK gradients (1 in 20, etc.) into percentages. I also want to convert dgree of curvature into radius. Can anybody supply the appropriate formulas?

The first is easy: divide out your fraction then multiply x 100

So, for 1 in 20, 1 divided by 20 is .05, x100 = 5%

For the second:

R = 50/sin(A/2)

where R is Radius in feet and A is degree of curvature. See

http://www.steamlocomotive.com/model/curve.shtml

for a discussion and a table of radii for common prototype curves in degrees.

If you contact me back channel, I'll send you a spread sheet with the formulas inbedded in them.
