KAMLOOPS HERITAGE RAILWAY STEAMS #2141 TO ARMSTRONG The Kamloops Heritage Railway quietly steamed CN #2141 to Armstrong and back in a test run for possible public excursions next year. Photos—of #2141 in Armstrong (below) and working along the line (page 33) by David Meridew. The date was Sunday, October 24 and the railways involved asked that the trial run not be publicized. Locomotive #2141 and the Pioneer Park coach were inspected by CPR on October 23 in preparation for the CPR mainline move to Campbell Creek. Approval was granted and the train was delivered to an industrial siding by the Kelowna Pacific Railway for the steam run the next day. The trip to Armstrong took around four hours in each direction, and the run was considered a complete success. The Kamloops Heritage Railway and Kelowna Pacific Railway will now begin discussions towards possible public trips in 2005. There are infrastructure improvements needed in Armstrong prior to any trip with passengers aboard. No question, though, it would be a delight of a steam trip for any fan. The test run was operated in partnership with the Kelowna Pacific Railway, and with the cooperation of the CPR, CN, and the Okanagan Valley Railway. (KHR) |
