Hi Al,

There's been a lack of new info the last week, and my hope is the silence means there has been progress.

I have had a tremendous response to the open letter, which made it around the Internet and into local papers. Thanks to the all the e-mail concerned folks started floating around, the debacle did make it to the upper echelon of the R&LHS.

There are plenty of conspiracy theories out there, none of which I want to share here. If I could prove any, I would. There are some very interesting, but so far circumstantial, notions going around.

I was not able to get to Jim Thorpe over the weekend, though there are reports around the Internet that some private car owners were trying to get their property moved off the rails in question.

What I did learn was that some members of the Lackawanna Chapter of the R&LHS, and apparently the national board, were not aware of the shenanigans. In fact, I was told that the next Chapter meeting is next week, *after* the deadline to rip up the tracks.

I also learned there are a lot of people in Carbon County who are very upset with the whole arrangement, from the end of George Hart's tenure to the R&LHS issue -- the idea of a group based in New Jersey coming to Jim Thorpe to rip things up doesn't go over well locally.

Did anyone get to JT over the weekend?

My latest info is that there has been some very limited progress made in recent discussions with the Carbon County authorities and that the Chapter folks are guardedly hopeful of reaching an agreement that will nullify the scrapping.
It is my understanding that the scrapper has been told to stand-by and that those involved believe it will be settled one way or the other in the next several weeks.
Let's hope it gets resolved positively!!
