The Nevada Northern Railway Museum rents out their locomotives to the general public for main line operation. This is the ultimate railfan gift, the chance to operate either a steam or diesel locomotive on the main line. In 2005 there will be a choice of two steam locomotives, either locomotive 40 (Baldwin, 1910, 4-6-0) or locomotive 93 (ALCO, 1909, 2-8-0) or for diesel fans a choice of an ALCO RS-2 or RS-3 and a EMD SD-9. The route for the steam is 18 miles round trip through a curved tunnel on the original route to the mine. Grades vary from .5% to 2%. The diesel route is 22 miles round trip and is the original route to the mill. Grade is .4%. Both routes involve a lot of curves. Trips can be split between two people. More details are on our website www.nnry.com. Funds raised from this program are invest right back into the NN Ry Steam Program. Locomotive 40 is in the final stages of getting her tubes done and will be running in 2005. Next up is finishing the repairs to the 1906 steam wrecking crane. Then its on to locomotive 81 (Baldwin, 1917, 2-8-0). Then bringing up the rear is the rotary snowplow. Merry Christmas, Mark You might want to print out this posting and leave it where Santa can see it. |
