To all those who may have known John Young and those who may not, here is a link to the Charleston, W. VA obituary about him. http://www.wvgazette.com/section/Obituaries/#John_J._Young_Jr._38239 A good friend and mentor, irreplaceable like so many others. Mike. |

| Post subject: | That Which We Pass On (an interesting note) |
Mike, I've been meaning to register on RYPN for sometime, but your message compelled me to expedite the process. Why? Mr. J. J. Young, Jr. penned an absolutely fascinating article for RAILFAN magazine in 1976 about the Baltimore and Ohio's EM-1s. Even after first reading his story years ago, his experiences and stories still echo in my imagination. It is a great read. But it is not simply his many contributions to the magazine that compel me to share with you my sentiments. It is the fact that the night before it was announced that Mr. Young has passed on, I was reading that very article. I pulled out the magazine last week and let it sit before I read it, so it seems that Mr. Young passed away during the same timeframe in which I dusted off the old magazine and rediscovered his story. The man, whom I know nothing about (short of what I've read), has passed on, but his passion for the iron road continues to be passed on into the Third Generation. An interesting footnote. It's my hope that in my time at Steamtown, on the Ohio Central, and on the 765, that I'll able to recall memories and experiences that rival in comparison. -Kelly Lynch nathanfivechime |
