Bath & Hammondsport caboose undergoing repairs at hannomdsport, NY. Is the B&H still in business? They ran a wine train briefly a few years ago. http://naphotos.nerail.org/showpic/?pho ... date%3A178 |

yep, the B&H still exists! (could the B&H be the oldest continously operating shortline in the US? it has been around since 1872!) for the last 5 years or so, it has been operated by the Livonia, Avon & Lakeville. the two classic B&H Also S1's are still in use: (although not used much) http://naphotos.nerail.org/showpic/?2004010609491918895.jpg and the LA&L recently lettered a C424 for the B&H..same black and yellow paintscheme as the other LAL units, but lettered "Bath & Hammondsport" down the side. largest engine ever run by the B&H! http://www.railpictures.net/viewphoto.php?id=29592 The B&H runs between Cohocton, NY, through Bath, to the NS interchage at Painted Post..near Gang Mills yard. the entire line is former DL&W mainline. the original line from Bath north to Hammondsport is out of service, but the tracks are still in place. All those big Cartier M630's and C636's are stored at the B&H yard at Cohocton. (3 of them have now gone to work on the Susquehanna) Scot |
