No offense, but I just wonder if the #2100 had really been a "worth-while" project, then OC would have kept her. Big Engine = Big Insurance = Need a place to run it!

I dont believe the OC ever owned her. She was sitting in a yard and was getting close to being scrapped so Jerry stepped in and moved it. The OC did do some test runs with it, if I'm not mistaken but it was for the gentleman that ownes it now.

Never said afraid --- exactly the opposite! If it had been a worthwhile endeavor to keep it in Ohio, economic or otherwise, I'm sure it would have stayed. Sorry on the confusion of the OC not owning her --- again, go to the source (sorry Jason).

Even imagining the most basic business model, I can't imagine having TWO big operating 4-8-4s would even come CLOSE to doubling the revenue of just running 6325. How would Jerry justify the upkeep of both engines?

By using them in fast freight service :)

But seriously, do you not think that if Jerry was in the market for another large steamer, he would overlook the 614 in his back yard? Not to rain on 2100's parade, but the 614 is a much more advanced locomotive. How much work to overhaul it seems to be a matter of varied opinion.

The 614 is for sale but for a very large amount of money. Even if it was bought at least 500,000 would have to go into bringing it up to FRA standards and giving attention to everything that needs attention to. I believe that the Ohio Central would not look at it as being cost effective to invest in another engine when they already have 2 that run, one in the shop and at least 5 engines waiting for their turn in the shop. The main supporter of the OC which is the general public and not the railfans don't really care which engine is on the front of a train. They are just going for a ride behind a steam engine.

Of course, these are only my opinions as I have no idea what the Ohio Central Steam Programs main objective is. All I know is that the 614 has been for sale for a while and the OC has not bought it.

2100 WAS in his backyard and 614 wasn't and hasn't been. If I recall, Jerry bid on (and wanted badly) the T-Hog but was outbid. I don't think 6325 was in the picture yet.
