Post subject:  Today's parking garage

The Penn Central era was not a happy time to be sure, despite the fresh paint on this E unit in June 1968. If you were standing here today at the Albany, NY Union Station, you'd be on a deck of a parking garage, all tracks having been removed a few years after the terminal was moved across the Hudson River, in December 1968. The station is nicely restored as a bank, but the shortage of parking downtown brought the construction of a multideck facility here behind the building within the last five years. State officials have also talked of reviving a Saratoga-Albany commuter train, but the D&H/CP tracks are now some distance from downtown, under a labryinth of freeway overpasses.
