Any ideas on why the particular locomotives in the PRR collection (other than the obvious H3, E7, and E6) were chosen for preservation? Why the 1361, rather than one of her sisters? Had she pulled a particularly important tain at one time or another?

This is no more than an educated guess on my part, pieced together from information I've gathered from several sources. PRR 1361 was taken out of service in New Jerseyand sent to Altoona in June or July 1956. It joined an ever-growing line of steam locomotives retired and sent to Altoona awaiting disposition. In 1957, when PRR officials acceded to entreaties from the City of Altoona for a K4s locomotive to display on Horseshoe Curve, 1361 was selected simply because it was the closest Altoona-built K4s to the head of the line and easiest to get to. It was run through the paint shop and then moved to the Curve for display.
