| Post subject: | Woodhams Yard |
Probably the best steam story to date is the rescue of over 200 steam locomotives after sitting derelict for many years in Woodhams Scrapyard in Barry, Wales in the UK. Many have since been restored to working order, and only a few were scrapped at the yard. I'll have to check my book on Barry to see if this Great Western 2-8-0 survived or not. http://abpr.railfan.net/abprphoto.cgi?n ... dhams2.jpg Just checked. As of 1983 GWR 2861 (in the "Back From Barry" book) was reserved for the Barry Steam Locomotive Action Group, so I suspect it did survive. Anyone have a recent photo or information? And Woodhams in color, 1975: http://abpr.railfan.net/abprphoto.cgi?n ... ine-up.jpg |
